The Mailchimp playbook

Mailchimp sends the campaigns. Your domain still has to earn the inbox.

Mailchimp runs the shared IP pools your campaigns go out on, but once you authenticate your own domain, its reputation is yours to build and Mailchimp documents no feature that warms it. Keep your campaigns exactly where they are. Add your brand domain here and we build its reputation while Mailchimp keeps sending.

The Mailchimp playbook

Keep sending from Mailchimp. Warm the domain here.

Step 1

Verify and authenticate your domain in Mailchimp

Verifying proves you can access an address on the domain; authenticating adds two DKIM CNAME records and a DMARC record. Until the From domain is authenticated, email clients may show Mailchimp’s server domain, such as mcsv.net, next to your name. A Gmail or Yahoo From address is rewritten to a mailchimpapp.com address, and free domains cannot be authenticated at all.

Step 2

Know what Mailchimp handles, and what it does not

Campaigns go out on Mailchimp’s shared IP pools, which it groups by list reputation, and its Omnivore system screens risky imports before they can do damage. Nothing on the Marketing side ramps a newly authenticated domain, though: its reputation is yours to build.

Step 3

Add your brand domain to Inbox Boost

Use the domain in your From address, such as yourbrand.com. The DKIM records you added in Mailchimp stay as they are. We set up what the domain needs and build its sender reputation for you. Nothing to connect to Mailchimp: no API key, no app, no change to your account.

Step 4

Keep every campaign and automation running in Mailchimp

Newsletters, welcome automations, announcements: all of it stays in Mailchimp. Mailbox providers score the domain in your From address, so the reputation built here counts for every Mailchimp send from yourbrand.com.

Step 5

Check where Mailchimp mail lands

Inbox placement tests show whether your campaigns reach Primary, Promotions or Spam across the major mailbox providers, and blacklist monitoring keeps watching the domain once it is warm.

  • Nothing to connect: no Mailchimp API key, app or integration
  • Nothing to change: audiences, automations and templates stay exactly as they are
  • Built for shared IPs: the IPs are pooled, so the domain is the reputation that is yours
  • Watched after warmup: blacklist and authentication monitoring on your brand domain

Questions

Mailchimp questions, answered.

Does Inbox Boost connect to my Mailchimp account?
No. There is no API key, app or integration to install. Inbox Boost works on your brand domain, and Mailchimp keeps sending your campaigns and automations exactly as it does now.
Mailchimp sends on shared IPs. Why does my domain matter?
Mailchimp manages the shared pools and their IP reputation. Your authenticated domain carries its own reputation with Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo, and that part travels with you. Mailchimp does not document any warmup feature for Marketing accounts, so building it is up to you.
Can I keep sending from a Gmail or Yahoo address?
Mailchimp rewrites free-mail From addresses to a mailchimpapp.com address so they pass DMARC, and says that cannot fix every delivery issue. Free domains cannot be authenticated, so there is no domain reputation of your own to build. Send from a domain you own, authenticate it in Mailchimp, then add it here.
Do I need to authenticate my domain in Mailchimp first?
We recommend it. Without authentication, recipients may see Mailchimp’s server domain, such as mcsv.net, next to your name, and the reputation your mail earns is not tied to your brand. Authenticate the domain in Mailchimp, then add your brand domain, the one in your From address, here.
Can I see whether it is working?
Yes. Inbox placement tests show where your Mailchimp mail lands, Primary, Promotions or Spam, across the major mailbox providers, and blacklist monitoring keeps watching the domain afterwards.
