The Magento playbook

Magento sends the order mail. Your domain still has to earn the inbox.

Self-hosted Magento hands email to the server’s Sendmail by default, and Adobe Commerce on cloud routes it through an Adobe-managed SendGrid proxy. Neither warms your domain. Keep your mail transport exactly as it is. Add the domain here and we build its reputation while Magento keeps sending.

The Magento playbook

Keep sending from Magento. Warm the domain here.

Step 1

Put your store email addresses on your own domain

Magento’s default store email addresses are placeholder example.com identities. Set them to a domain you own and keep public domains such as gmail.com out of the From address: Adobe’s cloud proxy blocks them, and domain authentication is checked against the sender address.

Step 2

Know who delivers your mail, and what they leave to you

Self-hosted, the default transport is Sendmail from the web server, and Adobe’s security notice advises switching to SMTP. On cloud, DKIM through the SendGrid proxy needs a Support ticket on Pro and is not available on Starter, and Adobe says the proxy is not for marketing campaigns. None of these options warms the domain.

Step 3

Add your brand domain to Inbox Boost

Use the domain in your From address, yourstore.com. On Adobe Commerce on cloud, any DKIM records Adobe sets up for its SendGrid proxy stay with Adobe. We set up what it needs and build its sender reputation. Nothing to connect to Magento: no API key, no extension, no change to your configuration.

Step 4

Keep order mail and newsletters running from Magento

Order, invoice and shipment emails, account mail and newsletters: all of it keeps going out through the transport you already use. Mailbox providers score the domain in your From address, so the reputation built here counts for every Magento send from yourstore.com.

Step 5

Check where Magento mail lands

Inbox placement tests show whether your order mail and newsletters reach Primary, Promotions or Spam across the major mailbox providers, and blacklist monitoring keeps watching the domain once it is warm.

  • Nothing to connect: no Magento extension, API key or admin access
  • Nothing to change: your mail transport and email templates stay exactly as they are
  • Self-hosted or cloud: it works either way, because the reputation belongs to the domain
  • Watched after warmup: blacklist and authentication monitoring on your brand domain

Questions

Magento questions, answered.

Do I need to install a Magento extension?
No. There is no extension, API key or integration to install. Inbox Boost works on your brand domain, and Magento keeps sending through whatever transport you use now.
I am on Adobe Commerce on cloud. Does SendGrid not handle reputation?
Adobe operates the SendGrid proxy and monitors its sender reputation score, but it provides no warm-up, and Adobe says the proxy is not meant for marketing campaigns. Your brand domain carries its own reputation with Gmail, Outlook and Yahoo, and that is what we build.
My store sends through Sendmail on its own server. Does this still help?
Yes, once the mail is authenticated. On the default path nothing is signed unless your host or an SMTP provider signs it, and Adobe’s security notice recommends switching the transport to SMTP. With SPF and DKIM in place for whoever delivers, the reputation built here counts for that mail.
Do newsletters and order emails share a reputation?
If they share a domain, yes. Magento’s built-in newsletter goes out through the same transport as order mail, and a third-party newsletter service sending from your domain is scored on that domain too. Building it here helps both.
Can I see whether it is working?
Yes. Inbox placement tests show where your Magento mail lands, Primary, Promotions or Spam, across the major mailbox providers, and blacklist monitoring keeps watching the domain afterwards.
