The BigCommerce playbook

BigCommerce sends the order mail. Your domain still has to earn the inbox.

BigCommerce delivers your order and account email from its own mail servers, with your store email as the sender. It asks for one SPF include and recommends a basic DMARC record, and its docs describe no warm-up. Keep your store exactly as it is. Add the domain here and we build its reputation while BigCommerce keeps sending.

The BigCommerce playbook

Keep sending from BigCommerce. Warm the domain here.

Step 1

Get SPF and DMARC right for BigCommerce

Your domain’s single SPF record needs include:_spf.bigcommerce.com. BigCommerce creates it for new stores on its own DNS; anywhere else, add the include to your existing record rather than publishing a second one. Then add the basic DMARC record BigCommerce recommends, starting at p=none.

Step 2

Know what BigCommerce covers, and what it does not

Order and account email and Abandoned Cart Saver messages go out from BigCommerce’s servers unless you set up custom SMTP, which moves all outgoing mail to your mail host. Campaigns come from apps such as Mailchimp or Klaviyo. Use a store email on your own domain, not a free Gmail or Yahoo address. BigCommerce’s email docs describe no warm-up.

Step 3

Add your brand domain to Inbox Boost

Use the domain in your From address, yourstore.com. We set up what it needs and build its sender reputation. Nothing to connect to BigCommerce: no API key, no app, no change to your store.

Step 4

Keep order mail and campaigns running

Order confirmations from BigCommerce and campaigns from your marketing app keep going out as they do now. Mailbox providers score the domain in your From address, so the reputation built here counts for every BigCommerce send and campaign from yourstore.com.

Step 5

Check where BigCommerce mail lands

Inbox placement tests show whether your order mail and campaigns reach Primary, Promotions or Spam across the major mailbox providers, and blacklist monitoring keeps watching the domain once it is warm.

  • Nothing to connect: no BigCommerce app, API key or store access
  • Nothing to change: store settings, templates and marketing apps stay as they are
  • BigCommerce or custom SMTP: it works either way, because the reputation belongs to the domain
  • Watched after warmup: blacklist and authentication monitoring on your brand domain

Questions

BigCommerce questions, answered.

Do I need to install a BigCommerce app?
No. There is no app, API key or integration to install. Inbox Boost works on your brand domain, and BigCommerce keeps sending your store email exactly as it does now.
BigCommerce sends from its own servers. Why does my domain matter?
Your store email is the sender on every message, and BigCommerce warns that without SPF, DKIM and DMARC set up properly, mail may go to spam or be rejected. Authentication proves the mail is yours; the domain’s reputation decides how it is received, and that is what we build.
Should I switch to custom SMTP?
That is your call. With custom SMTP your mail host’s servers handle all outgoing store email, and BigCommerce says SPF, DKIM and DMARC must then be configured for that server. Either way, the reputation built here belongs to the domain.
My campaigns come from Klaviyo or Mailchimp. Does this cover them too?
If they send from yourstore.com, yes. Mailbox providers score the domain in your From address, so order mail from BigCommerce and campaigns from your marketing app both draw on the reputation built here.
Can I see whether it is working?
Yes. Inbox placement tests show where your BigCommerce mail lands, Primary, Promotions or Spam, across the major mailbox providers, and blacklist monitoring keeps watching the domain afterwards.
